Puerto Antofagasta examined the challenges associated with introducing low-emission marine fuels during the discussion session and workshop for the study “Demand projections for low-emission fuels in ports and maritime transport in the Antofagasta Region and central Chile.”
Held in Santiago, the event brought together stakeholders from across the sector’s value chain to share the study’s findings and exchange perspectives on the opportunities and gaps associated with introducing alternative marine fuels.
During the event, Puerto Antofagasta highlighted the importance of port infrastructure in advancing towards more sustainable maritime transport, considering the technical, operational and planning requirements involved in adopting new energy alternatives.
The exchange provided insights to inform decisions on the future development of ports and the maritime industry in Chile, linking infrastructure planning with the challenges of the energy transition and the sustainable development of maritime trade.
