Antofagasta, September 2026.— The development of the Antofagasta region’s productive sectors over the coming years requires coordinating exports and industrial supply with port cargo handling and transport. Moving toward a logistics hub involves integrating these functions with supporting infrastructure and specialized services for industry.
To meet these requirements, Puerto Antofagasta is advancing a portfolio of projects under its Master Plan to strengthen its maritime and off-port infrastructure. Available opportunities include the tender for dredging works within the breakwater expansion project and land at the Zona de Desarrollo Logístico La Negra.
“The port is part of a logistics system that must meet the needs of industries already operating in the region. Improvements to our infrastructure are complemented by the preparation of sites where new companies can expand the range of services supporting production. On this basis, we can strengthen integration with neighboring countries and create conditions to attract new cargo flows. Consolidating a regional logistics hub requires coordinating these capabilities with a long-term vision,” explains Carlos Escobar Olguín, general manager of Puerto Antofagasta.
Maritime access and operational continuity
To support this expansion of services for industry, Puerto Antofagasta’s portfolio includes investments aimed at strengthening maritime operations. One is the breakwater expansion project, which seeks to reduce restrictions caused by heavy swells and includes dredging works to improve vessel access.
The works cover sections of the harbor basin and approach channel, including the removal of rocky shoals in the latter. Public Tender No. 019/26 – Second Call covers an indicative volume of 46,678 m³ of sand, sediment and rock.
The tender documents allow bids for the full project or separate bids for sand or rock removal. Each company can assess these options according to its specialization and capacity to carry out the works. The works will take place at an operating port, subject to the coordination requirements set out in the tender documents. Technical bids will be received on October 20, 2026.
Industrial land and off-port support
Improvements to the port’s maritime infrastructure are complemented by onshore facilities to manage cargo and develop services supporting production. To this end, Puerto Antofagasta offers sites at the Zona de Desarrollo Logístico La Negra, which covers 50 hectares alongside Route 5, approximately 30 of which have been developed. The site is intended for cargo storage, preparation, consolidation, deconsolidation and distribution.
This land offering creates opportunities for new companies to establish themselves as suppliers of goods and services to the region’s industries. Projects committed to the area for small and medium-sized enterprises include heavy freight transport, spare parts supply for mining equipment, structural fabrication, logistics services and circular economy initiatives. This segment records 75% occupancy, with contracts signed and others in the signing process.
The Antepuerto Portezuelo complements this off-port support: it receives and stores Bolivian mineral concentrates, transported mainly by rail, and coordinates their dispatch to the port. This cargo management experience provides a basis for planning new flows associated with the Bioceanic Corridor.
Through this portfolio, Puerto Antofagasta is planning the infrastructure and services that will support regional growth. The decisions made today will define the port Antofagasta will have for future generations.
